“So much has changed in the world of expression as an artist, the way and method of approaching a project has many dimensions and mediums that one can now explore”

Nature series

Title — Beetles
Medium — Water colour and dry pastels on cold pressed paper
Year — Dec 2020

Inspiration — The ever-changing patterns and forms of nature are fascinating, new environments, travel and keen observations are what have bought out this nature series, Nature is meticulous in in creating and constructing geometric patterns and shapes.

Process — I tend to save simple sketches and drawings after the field trip or location sketches have been made. Then I try to memorise the energy of the moment and recreate the final details of colour and contour, detail and design. Sometimes I take pictures and finish the work after a period of time.

“Art has an invisible effect on people it automatically calms the senses and makes you feel more in your skin.”

Mandala on Silk

Title — Numbers and the vedic sciences
Medium — Water colour, dry pastels and embroidery on silk. Year — Nov 2019

Inspiration — I have been studying numerology and mandals from the last decade under Pieter Weltevrede, and I find it very interesting to connect the natural forces of nature with people and their personality types. There is a sense of building a relationship through the understanding of our elements and what attracts us naturally.

Process — Making patterns, repeating them, creating colour mood boards based on the different elements of the mandala theory and visualising symbols based on the history of where they came from is a part of building a mandala. I try to create layers onto layers for depth and visual appeal in this technique. The wash technique is the most intense part of creating mandalas. Also the silk allows a lot of work and layering as a base material.

Mandala attachment

Title — Flowing relationships
Medium — Macrame with cotton ropes on a wooden baton. Year— Nov 2019

Inspiration — Weaving is something I have always pursued when in distress. It is the most calming and therapeutic form of art, it helps me clear my mind.

Process — Macrame cotton ropes with hand made stone ware ceramic danglers.

“For me , my expression of art is limitless. It is who I am outside my studio space”

Study sketches & Graphic novel

Title 1 — little Miss’
Medium — Pen & ink, dry pastels, paper collage, oil pastels & water colour on cold pressed paper.
Year— Jan 2021

Title 2 — ‘Through the Yugas’ Medium — Pen & ink, dry pastels, oil pastels, paper collage and water colour on cold pressed paper. Year — Nov 2021

Inspiration — My little daughter who travels the world with me, like my little buddy. I sketch her a lot, and this one was in the Kochi Biennale 2019. The expression was priceless for me, with the adult glasses.

The dragon fly is one creature that has survived through the Yugas and different ages of human evolution. Its delicate yet dragon like form is fascinating. In the graphic novel it symbolises, “infinity”!

Process — Mix media has been my medium since collage days. I love the chemistry that different mediums bring to the canvas and paper. Some add depth while others lie on the surface only creating a superficial membrane. I like to combine this technique with my pen and ink works.
